Overview

Not everybody was born with an aptitude for language. People wishing to know about a new language can learn it formally or informally. Even people with good aptitude skills still have to learn it. However, learning can become tedious. That is why learning a new language in a fun way and in a comfortable situation is an attractive option.

We have been trying to find out about how to make the learning process in our institution both fruitful and more interesting. One of our methods is setting language lessons with many fun activities in order to make our students more motivated and eager to practice Indonesian language. Our philosophy is: "Must study but prefer fun? There's no reason you can't have both." WE KEEP OUR STUDENTS BOTH SMART AND SMILING.

There are at least 3 reasons for people choosing to study Bahasa Indonesia in Pandu -Indonesian Language Course.

1. Focus to student's need.

We understand that each student has different goal in learning Indonesian. Sometimes we meet the students who want to learn Indonesian language because they already learnt it in university. The previous group of ACICIS (one of accosiations in Australia which helps Australian Students join in-country indonesian course) told us that they were satisfied when joining ours since we gave them more intensive lessons and they even told us that the way we explain grammar -especially affixes- was even better than in uni. Yes, because we have a staff, who is from Psychology Department, who supervise our materials as well as the method of teaching in order to make those are well and easily absorbed by the students. But there are some students who want to learn Bahasa just because they want to survive in living in Indonesia (We are recently get an exclusive cooperation with English First and Real English, and they asked us to conduct Bahasa Indonesia lesson for their native speakers so that they can make a simple conversation in daily routines). Some of students are about to be an advanced student (usually they are who studying Indonesian Language at the higher level) who want to learn Indonesian Language in applicative ways (Bahasa Indonesia in media, literary, etc.) For those kinds of reason, Pandu could accommodate them because we have lots of sources. We have people who have majority in literacy, psychology, creative writing, social-politics, etc. So we are flexible and willing to adjust what we have to meet the students need. Of course we are proud of the curriculum we have, but sometimes we find that the student is a unique person (individual differences) who needs special treatment. The principle of "Giving First Class Service even for Those Who don't Call Us at the First Place" is always become our pledge for being sensitive and flexible to give the service according to what the student's need, want, and their proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia.

I have enjoyed my lessons with Pandu, and the course has given me e great start to learn the language. The course content and flexibility have allowed me to move at my own pace, and a schedule that fitted my other commitments.

2. Warm and competent personnel

We always distribute a questionnaire about the teacher's performance to students at the end of the program. Some characteristics which are supposed to be possessed by the instructors are being friendly, cooperative, expressive, funny, and creative - all of them always got the best mark. Hospitality is always at the highest mark which is 5. The good news is that those who are surround you are your instructors during the class as well as friends outside the class. We never limit the interaction between the students and the instructors even after the program ends.

Now, I am a repeat student at Pandu.. This friendly and intimate school in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood of Jogja is an ideal place to being your study, or refines your knowledge, of Indonesian. The experienced staff at Pandu is friendly and supportive of your efforts to learn Indonesian. One on one classes, in air-conditioned classroom with convenient and comfortable accommodation in town at very reasonable prices makes it possible for you to achieve your goal of becoming fluent in Bahasa. The teachers will gently and expertly guide you thought the intricacies of the language in an intellectually challenging and fun-filled environment. I have my favorite teacher but each and everyone of them are truly marvelous.
Come to Jogja--- make friends, learn the language --- join them, and me, as I will return often, and begin a ---life enriching experience! You will be glad you started and will never regret choosing Pandu for your life altering adventure in learning Indonesian language and culture.

3. Interesting activities and materials

We have combined Indonesian teaching materials with Psychological Training principle in order to make the students easier to absorb the materials. Moreover, it will also makes the students not getting bored during the lesson (well, sometime they enrolled nearly 8 hours lesson a day. So, we have to do something to the lesson so that the students will stay tune on the lesson, don't we?) and brings the students into spontaneity which helps them explore more vocabularies. The multi-sensoric games are given in order to accommodate at least three types learning of the students (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic).

The most memorable aspect of learning at Pandu for me was not only the variety of learning games and fun things we did but instead the day we dressed up in traditi- onal Javanese costume and had our photos taken along with the teachers. It was a fun day for all especially when another student and I had a mock fight using Java-nese swords. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Jogja, had fun and learned Indonesian as well. An unusually exciting school experience, definitely not the norm..
